Reserves teams get it done!

September 20, 2023

What a season we have had! This year was filled with memories for the Bears, not only because it was the 10th anniversary of our women’s football program, but also because all 6 of our teams had much to celebrate. In the end, we saw impressive seasons by our Men’s Seniors and Men’s Thirds, and we got to watch all 3 women’s sides and the Men’s Reserves get to take the field in grand final showdowns.

But it was our Women’s Reserves and Men’s Reserves sides who took home their premierships in the William Buck Premier Women’s Reserves and Division 1 Men’s Reserves competitions.

The Men’s Reserves were the first team to take home the premiership cup after an outstanding display of skill and perseverance against Glen Eira. Although we were down at the end of the first 2 quarters, we were never out, and the team managed to start to run away with goals in the third and continued this trend into the fourth quarter! It was a well-earned win for the boys at 55 to 90 our way.

Our Women’s Reserves premiership was an absolute nail-biter against Coburg Football Club, but they managed to secure our first-ever Women’s Reserves premiership with a goal kicked after the siren to win by a point – courtesy of superstar forward Tenille! The final score for our girls was 29 to 30.

Congratulations to all our players in 2023, as well as our volunteers and supporters – we look forward to seeing you all again soon after a well-earned rest and a fantastic season of football.
